Why major in Mathematics ?
If you wonder why take Mathematics as your main topic of University studies, this section gives you a few hints.
And for those who still wonder whether Maths matters, these interesting posters from SIAM, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics will be of a great interest.
Mathematics degrees - especially when combined with a background in another computational science - open doors to a wealth of career opportunities.
Handbooks
Each year the Department publishes an 2011 Mathematics Undergraduate Handbook (3M, .pdf) and a 2010 Mathematics Postgraduate Handbook.
A Mathematics Education Unit Postgraduate Handbook is published every third year.
The handbooks are, along with the University of Auckland Calendar, the main sources of information regarding courses and degrees comprising mathematics courses.
Current and future students are welcome to browse the handbooks, ask to have a copy sent to their address or let us a know what they think about them.
