The conference will take place at the City Campus of the University of Auckland, which is

The opening reception on Sunday 30 June, and all the
talks will take place in the Mathematics/Physics building, which is on
Princes Street close to the junction with Wellesley Street. The
reception will take place in the ground floor foyer, and most talks
will be in lecture theatres next to the first floor foyer (North
Americans should note that ground floor and first floor are not the
same thing here!).
Accommodation has been arranged at Grafton
Hall and the Park
Towers Hotel. Grafton Hall is approximately 15 minutes' walk from
the campus, the Park Towers Hotel less than 10 minutes. Another
option would be to stay in other nearby hotels: the closest is the
Hyatt Hotel.
Accommodation in Grafton Hall will cost NZ$40 per person per night
(single or twin rooms), and in the Park Towers Hotel NZ$90 (single
occupancy) or NZ$103.50 (double occupancy) per room per night for
double or twin rooms. At today's exchange rate (April 19) of NZ$1 =
US$0.448, these rates are approximately US$18 per night, US$40 per
night and US$46 per night respectively. For up-to-date rates and
other currecies, use this Currency Converter.
Accommodation at Grafton Hall or the Park Towers Hotel may be reserved
on the Registration
Form. Please note that rooms will not be available at Grafton
Hall earlier than 30 June.
Very often there is a significant asymmetry in the air fares: in many
cases it is possible to buy return air tickets from elsewhere to NZ
here in NZ at a fraction of the price that you'd pay in your home
country. Because of this, we highly recommend checking the airfares
with Ms Katie Grealish at STA Trave, at courtenaycentral@statravel.co.nz (using the
subject "Top2002"). In some cases this will result in significant
savings, although we can guarantee nothing, as buying tickets from
this end is not permitted in all cases by the airline policies.
All fees are in New Zealand dollars and inclusive of GST. For
up-to-date currency conversions, use this Currency Converter, provided by The Universal Currency Converter
Services
The registration fee for the conference will be NZ$ 335 (approximately
US$150 at current exchange rates). This fee includes the opening
reception, morning and afternoon teas, conference materials and a copy
of the conference proceedings, to be published by Topology
Proceedings.
Full time students are eligible to register at the reduced fee of
NZ$245 (approx US$110): entitlements are as per the full registration,
excluding the conference proceedings.
Single day registrations are also available for NZ$175: this includes
morning and afternoon tea and conference materials, and excludes
proceedings.
Registration can be made on the Registration Form.

The afternoon of Wednesday 3 July will be free for tours and other
activities. A wine tour will be arranged, at a cost of NZ$95 per
person, visiting some of the region's wineries to sample their
products. We can also take reservations for the "Big Three" tour,
which visits the main tourist attractions in Auckland (including the
Sky Tower and Kelly Tarltons Underwater World and Antarctic
Encounter). These tours may be booked on the Registration Form.
We will also be organising trips to the bird sanctuary island of
Tiritiri Matangi on the weekends before and after the conference: see
here for details.
General comments
Note that the conference is to be held in the Southern Hemisphere
where it is winter in July. This means that such winter activities as
skiing are at the top of the list of activities. A recent survey of
Ski Resorts of the world put New Zealand Ski resorts at the second
least expensive. There are other tourist activities available too: a
geothermal area with geysers, amazing terraces and boiling mud pools;
a volcanic island on the edge of the city; a bird sanctuary island;
spectacular beaches; rainforest. Some participants may also be
interested in the International
Conference on Mathematics Education to be held in Auckland the
following week.
On a typical winter's day in Auckland the temperature should reach up
to 13 or 14° C, between 55 and 60° F, while at night it
may drop to 7 or 8° C, the mid 40's F. Some rain is possible:
however, it has not snowed in Auckland since 1976.
